About the Show
Born in Montreal Quebec, and raised in Edmonton Alberta, Cheyenne (aka Shyguy) grew up surrounded by music from his parent’s record collection. At a young age, he was exposed to several genres of music ranging from soul, r&b, jazz, and funk, to calypso, reggae, and folk. His summers were spent in Montreal where he would have the opportunity to experience the International Jazz Festivals. This was a significant musical influence on him.
After his move to Edmonton in the mid-’80s, he decided to continue record collecting and began his DJ hobby in the late 90s.
From 1999 to 2003, Cheyenne produced a radio show called “The Global Groove Connection” on Saturday nights while completing his BA in Psychology at the University of Alberta. His journey continued when he moved to Toronto and was blessed to see many of his DJs, producers, and artists perform and spin at special events and afterparties.
After moving yet again to Port of Spain, Trinidad and Tobago in 2009, he was able to share his musical knowledge and love DJing for corporate events, launches, fashion shows, and festivals making a name for himself.
He’s back in Canada and bringing back the groove – The Global Groove Connection that is! This eclectic program will feature soul, neo-soul, funk, acid jazz, underground hip-hop, soulful house, and world music – from Alberta to Albania, Trinidad to Tanzania…well…you get the picture!
A marketing-communications professional, brand strategist, and digital nomad, Cheyenne still continues to search for the perfect groove. Record collecting, cooking, and curating music playlists are just a few of his hobbies. He dabbles in graphic design whenever he has time on his hands (which is almost never).
The Global Groove Connection – A one-hour musical journey with host Shyguy – spinning a mix of current and classic grooves from across the globe: Afrobeat, Brit funk, calypso, deep & soulful house, neo-soul, and all things eclectic.
